Decipher welcomes new members of staff
Over the last few months, we’ve welcomed some new and impressive members of staff to the team. In this article, we introduce Allan Murt and Dominic Mondino, and give you a little more information on their backgrounds and careers to date. Look out for further updates, where we’ll be introducing more of the team.
Allan Murt, Senior Consultant
Allan’s interest in construction started after completing a work placement at a PQS firm in Liverpool. Following this initial exposure to the industry, he went on to study quantity surveying at Nottingham Trent University.
Working as a Quantity Surveyor allowed Allan to travel. He worked on projects in the Middle East, Europe and Australia, where he worked on the Olympic Stadium for the Sydney 2000 games. Whilst Allan admits working on high profile projects such as the Olympic Stadium were beneficial to his CV, the project he most enjoyed working on was the £35m redevelopment in Liverpool.
Over 300 houses had been left derelict for over 15 years, resulting in the area becoming run down. The transformation of the streets and addition of affordable rented homes and lead to further investment in the area. The project won the RICS and Sunday Times National Awards for residential developments in the process.
As a managing QS, Allan began to gain exposure to disputes. To further his knowledge in the area he returned to study in Nottingham for a law degree. Upon completion of the degree he was awarded the Brick Court Chambers Scholarship from Middle Temple. This allowed him to study for the Bar Professional Training Course and he was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2018. Allan wanted to make the most of his combination of legal and technical knowledge. So in March 2020, Allan took the role of Senior Quantity Surveyor with Decipher.
Just one week after joining, the national lockdown across England was announced. Allan said “Starting a new role from home has been unusual, but since joining Decipher I’ve found myself working on a mix of power, rail and nuclear projects, supporting clients in the UK and the Middle east.”
Dominic Mondino – Senior Consultant
Dominic started his career as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor in 2000. He has progressed since through the ranks , before reaching Commercial Manager.
Dominic has overseen the commercial aspects of many high-level projects within refurbishment, re-development, and new builds. Over his 20 year career in the construction industry, he has worked under various forms of procurement routes and contracts. His experience includes working on projects with main contractors and clients, with values ranging from £500k – £60m, managing commercial teams.
Dominic aims to ensure projects meet client requirements as well as programme targets. He believes this happens with a combination of a detailed methodical approach, and the ability to communicate effectively. Maintaining good working relationships is crucial to achieve a positive outcome.
Although Dominic enjoyed his previous roles, he says of the move “I wanted to move into dispute resolution. When the opportunity arose with Decipher Consulting to join as a senior consultant, I was impressed with the variety of projects and services the Decipher team work on.”
In his role with Decipher, he is responsible for and assisting with commercial and quantum matters including, adjudication referrals and responses, assisting with expert witness report writing, due diligence analysis, quantity surveying and commercial management.
Dominic is also focusing on his academic qualifications. He is in the process of applying for fellowships of his CIOB and RICS (Member) professional memberships, full professional membership of CIArb. Next year will see the completion of a master’s in construction law, as well as expert witness and adjudication training.
